From Version 3.1 of HireTrack NX we plan to support running HireTrack NX client on Apple Mac Intel range of computers. Currently HireTrack NX has been tested on OS X Big Sur and it may also work on earlier versions (untested).
To run on an Apple Mac, HireTrack NX makes use of a Windows translation layer called "Wine", which needs to be installed.
Unless you are a Mac guru, we recommend that you use CrossOver as a way to install, configure and run Wine, as this gives a familiar, powerful user interface to configure and run HireTrack NX.
The following is a step by step guide on how to firstly install CrossOver and then how to install HireTrack NX and the files it requires.
CrossOver is available to try for free for 14 days so you can make sure that your Mac supports HireTrack NX. If you wish to use it after then, it costs approximately £38 - however if you use the promo code HIRETRACK at the checkout, you'll get a 25% discount. This is all you need to buy, there is nothing to purchase from Microsoft, Windows is not required.
Whilst we don't recommend running the HireTrack NX server on a Mac, due to the different file security model and lack of support for Windows services, it is quite possible to do so and may be desirable whilst trialling HireTrack NX; so at the end of this article (step 27 onwards) there are additional instructions for setting up a "workbench" HireTrack NX server on a Mac
Since this step by step guide was written the Crossover web site has been updated several times. so theses steps should be viewed as a guide, rather than an accurate representation of what you will see.
The important things to do is to create a Windows XP Bottle with the Platform SDK Redistributable GDI+ installed within it and then install HireTrack NX in to this bottle. (Bottle is a term that means a specific Microsoft Windows setup).
As of late 2021, the Crossover Page https://www.codeweavers.com/compatibility/crossover/platform-sdk-redistributable-gdi allows this.
Step by step guide.
1. Log in to your Mac
2.Open a web browser and navigate to CodeWeaver's web site - CodeWeaver write CrossOver.
3. Click on the FREE TRIAL button
4. Fill in your name and email address and click the Download Trial Now button
5. The download should start automatically
6. You Mac may warn you that you are downloading an application from the Internet. Click Open.
7. If prompted to move the application to the application folder - click Move to Applications Folder
8. Unless you have already purchased a CrossOver license, Click Try Now
9. CrossOver will start and prompt you to install your first Window application. Click on the Install a Windows Application button
10. In the dropdown control, type HireTrack NX and then select Unlisted application "HireTrack NX"
11.Click on the Continue button
12. The CrossOver installer will now prompt for the location of the HireTrack NX installer.
You should have already received an email with the download link and have downloaded the file.
Click on Choose Installer File
13. Navigate to the downloaded HireTrack NX install file (most likely in your Downloads folder). Click on Use this Installer
14. The HireTrack NX setup file (Setup_HireTrackNX_Client.exe) should now be selected. Press Continue
15. CrossOver will confirm all the information. If you're happy it's correct, press Install
(Crossover will create a Windows XP "bottle")
16. The Windows "machine" will be configured
17. Then the HireTrack NX install will run. Follow the normal installation instructions for HireTrack NX.
18. However on the last screen UNCHECK the Launch HireTrack NX Desktop client - it won't matter if you forget this step, but the HireTrack NX screen will be drawn at very low resolution until the next step is completed.
19. Crossover will now show you HireTrack NX Desktop client, ready to be launched, but firstly we need to install the advanced graphics code. Click on the Install a Windows Application button
20. Type GDI and select Platform SDK Redistributable GDI+
21. Click Continue
22. Confirm that you want the advanced graphics to be available to HireTrack NX and click Continue
23. Click Install
24. The installer will download and install the advanced Windows graphics files.
25. When completed, click Done
26. If you already have installed the HireTrack NX server on your network then simply double click on the HireTrack NX Desktop Client icon and HireTrack NX will launch. If you are trialling HireTrack NX and wish to also install the server on your Mac, please keep reading.
27. Installing the HireTrack NX Server. Whilst we don't recommend running the HireTrack NX server on a Mac, due to the different file security model and lack of support for Windows services, it is quite possible to do so and may be desirable whilst trialling HireTrack NX.
This assumes that CodeWeaver had already been installed as detailed in steps 1 - 9 above.
Click on the Install a Windows Application button
28. In the dropdown control, type HireTrack NX Server and then select Unlisted application "HireTrack NX Server"
29. Click on the Continue button
30. The CrossOver installer will now prompt for the location of the HireTrack NX installer.

Click on Choose Installer File
31. Navigate to the downloaded HireTrack NX server install file (most likely in your Downloads folder). Click on Use this Installer
32. The HireTrack NX server setup file (NX_Server_setup.exe) should now be selected. Press Continue
33. CrossOver will confirm all the information. If you're happy it's correct, press Install
(Crossover will create a Windows XP "bottle")
34. The Windows "machine" will be configured
35. Then the HireTrack NX Server install will run. Follow the normal installation instructions for HireTrack NX Server.
36. Once completed, double click on the Navigator_nxServer_GUI icon and the HireTrack NX server will start. The server is configured via a web browser.
37. To access the Configuration screen, right click on the server icon on the right hand side of the menu bar. Clicking Config will open Safari - log in using the username Administrator with the password NexusDB
38. If you wish to shut down the HireTrack NX server, there are two steps. Firstly right click on the server icon in the menu bar and select Close. Then right click on the Icon in the Dock area and select Quit.

Many thanks for this, been using VM Ware for years with all the Windows problems. This is very easy to set up and works
We haven't released the Mac compatible version yet (still testing) so you may find that with the current regular version the notebook & email cause a crash.
I have been using this for a while now and it is very easy to setup and works great. I don't use the notebook really, but it does crash every time I send an email, so look forward to that being resolved.
David - it is all solved and If you drop an email to support with what version of NX you're running, I can send you a beta that addresses the email issue.
Does anyone else experience issues with NX crashing out on a Mac with the error "Connection to server lost"?
We only have one mac running NX. It is a mac book with a wired connection. No PC on the same network experiences the same problem.
Thoughts & comments welcome.
Andrew
Andrew, I have this quite regularly. It is generally when I go home over night and come back in the next day and have not quit out of HTNX. I think it could be the mac not HT, most days when I come into work, my mac has lost connection with the server too.
Thanks David. This was exactly my thought too - until I saw it happen to my colleague while he was using the machine...
I agree I think it is a mac / code weaver issue too. Has anyone has found a solution?
Might be worth raising it as support issue with CodeWeaver. There might be some setting somewhere to keep the connection awake. I've not experienced the problem, but then we're running virtual Macs rather than real ones.
if you want to save a tiny bit more money you can use promo code TWINSFAN not sure how long it will last but thought i would share.
Matt
