Introduction
Job Narratives and the templates that users can choose from can now be configured to support specific "areas" of a job, and each "area" is represented by it's own sub-page on the Narratives tab. This allows you to nuance your reports to have specific "areas" appear at particular points in the output.
Job Areas should be linked to one or more Job Types and the available "areas" to a specific job appear in a checklist box when the job loads or its Job Type is changed. If that "area" is already assigned to the job it will appear as a sub-page when the job loads.
Like equipment lists, crew etc, Job Areas can have their "Inc Quote" toggled on or off, giving dynamic control over what appears in your reports.
Each "area" tab is coloured according to the following rules
-
Green - there is text assigned to the narrative and the "Area" is linked to the Job Type.
-
Red - there is text assigned to the narrative and the "Area" is NOT linked to the Job Type. This will occur if the user changed Job Type after a narrative area tab had been created. Changing Job Type will NOT delete any narrative areas created for the job.
-
Black - no text has been assigned to the narrative for that "Area".
- Grey - the "Inc Quote" option has been turned off.
Narrative Areas can be deleted from the job simply by click the X on the tab. If the Area being deleted is linked to the Job Type is will then appear in the "Unassigned Areas For Job Type" checklist box so that it can be added back if required.
If no Narrative Areas are linked to the current Job Type then the only sub-page that will appear is the "Default" one, with this effectively functioning like Job Narratives has always worked.
When selecting a "Narrative from a Template" you will only be able to pick from templates that have been linked to the area for that sub-page. This helps the user only choose from relevant templates for the area in question.
Finally, the new design allows users to Append, Insert or Replace All text when loading a Narrative from a Template. In previous incarnations the text was always replaced.
Setting it up
1. The first step is to go to the Configuration Book and define your Job Narrative Areas. As you create them link them to Job Types on the right hand side. Once you have done this the functionality of being able to add narrative areas to jobs will be automatically available.
2. The next and and final step is to link Narrative Templates to Narrative Areas to control what template appear in the Job Books templates drop down control.
